Isn’t it ironic that reading a book nowadays is hip and cool? In the old days, when you are caught reading a book, you are considered a nerd or boring. Thanks to the cool gadgets that have been flooding the market, reading is now a cool thing to do. Of course, I cannot write this article without mentioning the pioneer of it all, the Kindle E-reader.

Amazon Kindle

Kindle first introduced its first ever e-book in 2007. It is a tablet size electronic gadget wherein you can store as many as 200 books. The public went crazy about it and in just a matter of hours Amazon Kindle E-reader was out of stock. Since it was a new product, there were some criticisms given by users. As a dynamic company, the makers of Kindle first generation listened to these criticisms and vowed to improve the next product.

Then in 2009, the second generation Amazon Kindle e-reader was available for the clamoring public. There were considerable improvements when compared to the first e-reader. The most notable change is the amount of book you can install. From 200 books it became 1500 books. The physical appearance is more streamlined and less bizarre looking. In some e-reader reviews, one of the criticisms for the Amazon Kindle is their high price. Many consumers are turned off by it that is why they reduced the price as the year went.

Another model of the Amazon Kindle reader that was released in the latter part of 2009 was the Kindle DX. This has the larger screen compared to the early e-readers. Aside from books, newspapers and textbook displays are readable in this model.

In 2010, Kindle began shipping the Kindle DX to international markets. To date, the Kindle is now on its fourth generation of electronic book reader. They have improved the product as the year progressed. Some of the new features are: clearer ink display known as E-Ink display, keyboards, Wi-Fi connectivity and the text to speech.

Where to Buy Kindle?

If you are planning to buy Kindle, you can check out the Amazon Kindle store. Aside from the Kindle e-reader device, you can also purchase the accessories in this online store. If you are outside the United States, you still have to purchase online and they will ship it to the country you are located.

Initially, the plan is to sell Kindle only on online stores. After a practice run of selling in select Target stores, Kindle is now available in all the Target Store branches across the country. Amazon is now ready to expand its product from the Net to actual retail stores. This move was necessary due to the increasing popularity of Apple’s iPad and Barnes and Nobles Nook e-reader.

This move of Amazon to put their Kindle products in a stone and mortar store is because the public would most likely to buy a product that they can examine, feel and touch compared to a product that they can only see in pictures.

Kindle vs. Other E-readers

There are already different kinds of e-readers out there in the market. When you say e-readers these refer to three kinds of products. This could be the standard black and white e-ink readers, 7-inch color media tablet, or full size color tablets like the iPads. Since there are these categories of e-readers, you cannot help but compare Kindle vs. other e-readers in the market.

First of all, one must determine what you are looking for in an e-reader. Are you just settling for reading books? Maybe you want to have some reading materials like magazines or newspapers? Or you want to also have the social media sites, gaming and music as well.

If you are the kind of person that wants to just read books and other reading materials then the Kindle electronic book device is for you. If you are more on the social scenes and would want more applications then the other kinds of e-readers would be the one that you need.

Other aspects of the e-readers that can be considered is the size of the screen, screen preferences, Wi-Fi connectivity and applications you would want installed in your e-readers.

Let us remember that the main reason Amazon Kindle e-reader was made is because they want to promote reading as a cool way to spend your free time. It is also a way for you to carry many books without the weight and inconvenience. So I personally think that it would be unfair to compare the Amazon Kindle E-reader to devices in the market that may seem similar to it. If you still have doubts, one of the things that struck me about Kindle is the name. The branding consultant, Michael Cronan gave the name Kindle because it is almost the same sound as candle and he felt that this is a metaphor to describe reading and intellectual excitement.

As the famous saying of Buzz Lightyear goes, “To infinity… and beyond!” that is how I feel with today’s technology. It seems that is how fast-paced our world is going right now, and sometimes it is hard to catch up. There are different gadgets that are being introduced to the public all the time. Normally, I would really just ignore this new stuff that comes out – until I came face to face with the Kindle e-book reader. I am a book lover so this is an intriguing gadget for me. Imagine, a machine that can handle several books at a time minus the weight! Before I get ahead of myself, the gadget I am talking about is the Amazon Kindle 1.

Amazon Kindle 1

The Kindle portable e-book reader was first introduced in the market in the autumn of 2007. It is the first of its kind and it was immediately adored by the public. Every book lover on the planet must simply have one. As I mentioned before, if you are the type who lugged around 3-4 books at a time to read during your free time, then this electronic device would be ideal. The Kindle 1 is the first e-book reader I encountered and made my own. As this is the first of its kind, there are good points and flaws that part and parcel of the device.

Let me start with the good points; in this world that we live in now, the most important thing is portability. Hence, laptops, cell phones, mp3 players are invented. With the Kindle 1, you can bring as many books as you want without the trouble of too much weight.

Another thing that is a must in our society is big memories in small packages. You hear megabytes, gigabytes and terabytes in terms of memory. This would mean you can store many things a computer but it does not necessarily mean that the computers would be heavy and hard to carry. The same goes for a Kindle Amazon e-book reader. The minimum number of books that you can put in a Kindle 1 is 200. You are already set up for a year of reading with that kind of number.

Then the third thing to consider is how to navigate your device. In this age of touch screen and QWERTY, the Kindle 1 has a scroll wheel controller and a selector column that can make navigating through the books easier.

You can also consider the other product features it boasts. The display screen looks like real paper; this is because of their revolutionary electronic paper display. Connectivity is easy; you do not need to connect to an internet server. Kindle will do it for you. Aside from books, you can also store magazines and newspapers.

If there are good points there are also some flaws in this Kindle 1. First of all, the look of Kindle 1 is a bit weird. It is angular and lacks the streamlined feel that most gadgets have nowadays. The menu display could use some cleaning up as well.

Amazon Kindle 2

The second generation Kindle was released on February 2009. A lot of buzz was already created by the first Kindle, so the launch of this second one was met with a lot of enthusiasm. I must admit I am one of those people who are as excited to see what changes were made in the new version of Kindle. First off, the Kindle 2 has a sleeker appearance. It is streamlined and became thinner compared to Kindle 1.

The memory of Kindle Amazon e-book reader has improved from 200 books you can now put 2,500 books. It is like almost having your own library with less space. The navigation of Kindle 2 is more simplified compared with Kindle 1.

In Kindle 1, the pages looked like book paper. This is further enhanced in the second generation Kindle. The e-ink display can show up to 16 shades of grey compared to the 4 of the previous Kindle. A new feature that was added to the Kindle 2 is the “read to me” mode or text to speech. This feature allows you to have the texts read to you instead of reading them.

Ultimately, these Kindle e-book readers will improve more as we progressed in the future. In the meantime, each of the Kindle e-book reader has their advantages and disadvantages. So it is up to you on which one will work best for you. You can choose from Amazon Kindle 1 or Amazon Kindle 2. It can be purchased through Amazon’s online store. Try and experience the book of the future. See for yourself and judge how good it is.

Kindle DXG or DX Graphite is an e-reader from Amazon released after the old White Kindle DX or K2. Though changes are few, Kindle DXG has features better than K2. Kindle DXG is a mixture of 3rd generation hardware and 2nd generation software. Though Kindle DXG has a large screen, its system memory is lower than Kindle 3 and it has no Wi-Fi connection. The new Pearl display from E-ink, one of its major features, is responsible for a higher contrast ratio compared to other Kindles. The Amazon Kindle DXG will cost you $379 on the market.

Kindle DXG Features

The new Kindle DXG didn’t change too much on its appearance prior to the older White Kindle. The 9.7” diagonal E-ink display is still the same which is very appropriate for reading books, magazines, journals, and the likes. The new casing color is a bit obvious which enhances the contrast ratio and makes reading easier on your eyes. Kindle DXG is one-third of an inch thick and weighs about 19 ounces. The rocker and the three buttons are built the same way as the other Kindles. It has no Wi-Fi connection but you can still connect to the internet anytime and anywhere via 3G at no cost. With consistent internet connection, downloading your favorite books won’t be a problem anymore.

After reading your favorite book, you can immediately share your ideas and opinions to your family and friends through Facebook and other networking sites built in the Kindle DXG. You can also discuss issues and questions online. You can save up to 3,500 e-books, journals, magazines, and other reading materials in your Kindle DXG the same way most Kindles can. It is like a miniature library in your pocket. Kindle DXG doesn’t limit its purpose for reading e-books. You can download compatible applications of your choice from the internet. The battery life lasts for up to one week with wireless on while two to three weeks with wireless off.

The new Pearl display from E-ink is a pretty appealing feature which improves contrast ratio for better reading. Other Kindles don’t stand a chance against the Kindle DX Graphite in terms of contrast ratio. Its better contrast ratio makes you feel as though you are reading off real paper. The refresh rate is also enhanced but Pearl display from E-ink takes extra time to react when changed from landscape to portrait. Other Kindle models are faster than Kindle DXG but the high contrast ratio makes up for it.

The read-to-me feature is also an interesting one. It allows your Kindle DXG read books out loud for you. You can listen to your Kindle DXG read your favorite book while doing something else. However, there are books which are unavailable to this feature depending on to the book’s rights holder.

You can also read books on your Kindle DXG under the sunlight with no glare. And unlike LCD screens, it doesn’t have blind spots when viewed from the side.

Kindle DXG Cons

In contrast to its amazing features, Kindle DXG gathered complaints across the globe from its users. Its amazing battery life is quite astonishing. However, Kindle DXG takes a lot of time to get fully charged. Its battery is also built-in to the device which makes the device veryfragile. Once your battery is malfunctioning, you have to contact Amazon Tech Support for help. Another disadvantage of the Kindle DXg is its memory is non-expandable unlike other Kindle models where you can add memory for wider collection of books and applications.

Its QWERTY keypad allows you to type faster. However, the distance between the buttons is relatively small compared to other models. You can accidentally push two buttons at the same time if you have big fingers like mine.

The new Kindle DXG doesn’t have a protective casing upon purchase. This would be an additional cost.

Reading with your Kindle DXG while holding it both hands could be very tiring because of its weight. Also, Kindle DXG is using a firmware on second generation (like K2) which has slower reaction time compared to Kindle 3 which belongs to the third generation. Among all kindle 3Gs, Kindle DXG still holds the title of having the best contrast ratio.

For these reasons, our recommended Kindle is the Kindle Touch. To see why and read our full review and comparison of all the Kindles, click here. If you want to buy a Kindle DXG from Amazon, click here.

Kindle DXG and other e-book readers have a lot of differences. Does Kindle DXG have an edge towards iPad? First, Kindle DXG and other digital devices are made for different purposes. Kindle DX Graphite’s features focuses more for the enjoyment of reading. By some means, the iPad has an edge in terms of color screen which is very appropriate for multimedia capabilities. Hence, every gadget has its own edge over other gadgets depending on its features.

Thus, before purchasing a gadget, you must consider your purpose and needs. If you love reading a lot, and I mean a lot, Kindle DXG is a perfect match for you.

“Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers.” by Charles W. Eliot

Since I was able to discover books, they became my friends. Books are my constant companions wherever I go. I am an eager reader. My playgrounds are the library and the bookstore. During Christmas and birthdays, the only gift that would make me happy is a book. That was then; as I grew older there is another thing that makes me happy. Kindle 3g wireless is what makes me happy these days.

Getting to know Kindle

I heard about Amazon Kindle wireless reading device from a friend. When I first heard him say the term “kindle” I was alarmed. I thought he wanted the books be on fire. He kept on laughing at my expense because of that. Then I found out that Kindle is a kind of wireless reading device. It is like an e-book reader. Now that Kindle and I were acquainted, I spread the word to my parents and sisters that is what I want for my birthday, Christmas, and New Year.

Meeting Kindle 3

My heart was racing so fast. My palms were sweating as I slowly unwrapped my birthday gift. Then there it is…my Kindle 3g wireless reading device! It is now official; I am one of the happiest people on Earth! Holding it in my hand, my first impression of Kindle 3g is that it is lightweight. I can hold it in one hand. It is thinner than a magazine and lighter than a paperback. The design is elegant and easy to use. It has a full touch screen display. It makes navigation and note taking easy as ABC.

<p style=”text-align: center; font-size: 20px;”><strong><a href=”http://www.litstation.org/recommends/kindlekeyboard.php”>Click here to get the Kindle 3g!</a></strong></p>

Spending Time with my Kindle Wireless Reading Device

Every moment spent with my Kindle wireless reading device is a piece of heaven. I wanted to protect my Kindle so I looked at different Kindle cases and settled on a pink Kindle case cover. Since we are now constantly together, there are more and more things I like about my new reading device. I can read in bright sunlight without the worry of eyestrain. This is possible because the 3g Kindle wireless reading device has the most advanced E-Ink display. The text sizes and font choices are adjustable. Images and photo display are very clear. It can also be zoomed to the full size of the screen.

Kindle 3G wireless reading device is the easiest to use because there is no wireless set-up. Kindle 3g uses the same wireless signal of my cell phone so I do not have to worry about Wi-Fi connections or unnecessary internet charges. One of the best features for me and the most important is that it has a two month battery life. I do not have to worry about charging the battery every other day or finding outlets where I can charge my Kindle wireless reading device. The Kindle 3g reading device never gets hot like the laptop. So, I can read as long as l like.

I cannot really stop singing its praises! Have you heard of the saying, “The world is on the palm of my hand”? Well, for me the library is the one on my palm. The Amazon Kindle 3g can hold up to 3,000 books. I can get the new books I want in 60 seconds without the need for computer. Another thing I enjoyed about it is that you can now lend your books to other Kindle users. Each eligible book can be lent once for a period of 14 days.

Looking for the meaning of words? No sweat! There is already a built in dictionary with instant look-up. The New Oxford American Dictionary is included. You can search Wikipedia and the Web.

If you are like me who likes to take notes and write something about passages I read, this is also possible in the Kindle 3g wireless reading device. You can also highlight passages and share it with your loved ones via Twitter or Face book. If you forgot the page where you last read Kindle will be the one to find it for you. Kindle opens to the last page where you read. If I am not in the mood for reading, there is also the Text-to-Speech; it can read out loud to me.

The experience that I have so far with my Kindle 3g wireless is awesome. I enjoyed every minute of it. The additional features are great and helpful. I have to thank my friend for introducing me to it. I also have to thank my parents for buying it for me. If you are thinking of having a Kindle 3g wireless of your own, I highly recommend it. It is the best e-book reader to date.

After Amazon’s wide screen e-book reader was available on the market, another version rose and outshined the Kindle DX. It is the new Kindle DX Graphite. It still possesses the big screen, about 9.7 inches in diagonal, which is very appropriate for reading. It is also equipped with the new Pearl display from E-Ink which has much higher contrast ratio and faster page refresh rate over its predecessor. Other than that, modification on its appearance is minimal.

Although they look pretty much similar, I think the Kindle DX Graphite would be a better pick compared to the former Kindle DX especially if you want a large and efficient e-book.

Based on the specifications above, the dimensions and weight of the Kindle DX Graphite is pretty much the same with Kindle DX. They both have the same display resolution but the Kindle DX Graphite’s Pearl display looks a lot better than the Kindle DX.

Pros

Kindle DX Graphite has this E-ink Pearl display which lets you read as though you were reading it on paper. It doesn’t consume a lot of energy; this means your batteries will last longer; up to 2-3 weeks if you don’t use Wi-Fi or 3G.

Kindle DX Graphite also has a 4 GB SD card memory which can store up to 3,500 e-books. This means you can store an entire library in your Kindle. It supports up to 8 different text formats which lets you read almost any type of document. Its zoom capability helps to easily view small printed details or graphics. The auto-rotating screen lets you view your screen on landscape or portrait, whichever is convenient for you. Its read-to-me feature lets your kindle read your newspaper, blogs, magazines, articles and e-books out loud while you’re doing something else.

The best thing about the Kindle DX Graphite is that its 3G wireless connection is absolutely free. Its wireless connection covers over a hundred countries which means you can download your favorite book and different software applications practically anywhere in the world. You could also transfer any books downloaded on your computer to your Kindle DX. You can even use your Kindle for Facebook and Twitter so you can easily share to your friends and family the great books you’ve read today.

Click here to get the Kindle DX from Amazon!

Cons

One thing I don’t like about this device is i’s battery. Sure, the Kindle DX has an amazing battery life but it is sealed in the device and not removable. This means once your batteries are worn out, you may need to replace your Kindle.

Another complaint I have with the Kindle DX Graphite is its keypad. Its QWERTY keypad is too small, especially for some of us with really large fingers. I also don’t like the fact that it doesn’t have a protective carrying case with purchase. I had to buy the protective case separately which cost me a lot more.

It is also weak in organizing files. PDF files are simply labeled by numbers. You cannot rename files or bookmark them. Its non-expandable memory also means you will be limited to 4G which may not be enough if you download a lot of applications.

Kindle DX Graphite Vs Kindle 3

In terms of screen size and contrast, the Kindle DX Graphite has the advantage over the Kindle 3. The joystick on the Graphite also made it easier to use compared to the Kindle 3. However, Kindle DX Graphite is much heavier and bulkier than Kindle 3 which can be an issue when you want a reader that’s very portable.

Kindle DX Graphite Vs iPad

Kindle DX Graphite does have similar features with the iPad, but they’re still 2 very different devices. Even with the Graphite’s internet capabilities, at heart it’s still an e-book reader. Reading the latest bestseller or your morning newspaper is an experience best reserved for the Kindle. Its E-ink technology makes reading a pleasure. But if it’s the multimedia experience you’re after, then you’re better off with an iPad. With the iPad’s speed, screen and memory size, the Kindle DX Graphite doesn’t stand a chance.

Click here to get the Kindle DX from Amazon!

The Verdict

The Kindle DX Graphite is a great e-book reader and I think by far it’s the best one. Its features does make reading a more enjoyable and interactive experience. But despite all its features, it’s not a tablet PC. It won’t replace your iPad and it’s no substitute for one but it’s still a great buy for a true bookworm.

Didn’t you wish there was some way you could just put all those books into one need device? Welcome to that future with the development of e-book and portable reading devices. The most popular , of which, is the Amazon Kindle wireless reading device.

History of Amazon Kindle Wireless Reading Device

It all started in 2007 when Amazon released the Kindle First Generation e-book reader. The moment it was launched it was sold out in just five hours. This device can hold approximately 200 non-illustrated books. The device has a 6”inch 4-level gray scale display. Then Kindle 2 was introduced in February 2009, this model featured a text to speech option to read text aloud. It was slimmer than the original Kindle. The latest generation or fourth generation of Kindle is smaller, lighter, and jam-packed with features you would never see in any book.

Click here to get the Kindle for $79!

General Features of a Kindle Wireless Reading Device

If you are still having doubts about purchasing a wireless reading device, let us take a look at all the Kindle’s cool features. The most noticeable feature of the Kindle wireless reading device is that it is lighter, smaller and you can have as many as 1500 book titles that you can carry along without worrying about breaking your back. Another great feature of Kindle Wireless Reading Device is that you can read the first chapter of a book before choosing to purchase it, which sometimes is hard to do when you are in a bookstore and the book that you want to browse is fully wrapped. One greater feature of the Kindle Wireless Device is you can immediately access the book you want without lining up in a bookstore or having it on reserve. So even if it’s the weekend and it’s already midnight, you can read the book you want.

Kindle wireless reading device, Wi-Fi, 6” graphite display

If you are already familiar with the Kindle wireless reading device, then you will be more impressed with the Kindle wireless reading device newest feature, it’s Wi-Fi, 6” graphite display with New E Ink Pearl Technology. This technology gives you a reading experience very close to reading paper. This is really helpful for bookworms because it can decrease eyestrain especially if you read for long periods of time. Your reading experience will be even more enjoyable because it retains the 6” screen size as earlier models but in a smaller and lighter package. People nowadays want quick results, so with the Wi-Fi capability you can download books in 60 seconds or less.

Kindle 3g Wireless Reading Device

Another Kindle choice that you can check out is the Kindle 3G wireless reading device. This is great especially for those who don’t have a Wi-Fi set-up in their home. The built-in 3G connectivity uses the internet connection that cell phones use. It gets even better, there is no monthly fee because Amazon pays the for the Kindle 3gs wireless connectivity. This will enable you to download book, anywhere, anytime, without worrying about Wi-Fi hot spot. The wireless coverage covers 100 countries so this is very ideal for those who travel a lot.

Other Benefits in Owning a Kindle Wireless Reading Device

Owning a lot of books can sometimes be a big headache. But with a Kindle Wireless Reading Device, storage is not a problem. It will be very convenient because you do not need to carry all those heavy books. all you need is the Kindle Wireless Reading Device and you are all set to experience a fun reading experience. You can also do the environment a favor by eliminating the use of paper for your book.

Limitations of a kindle wireless reading device

As great as the Kindle is, it does have some limitations. First is that you cannot share your book with others even if they also own a Kindle. It needs a customizable folder system for organizing books which can be a big problem if you have a lot books in storage.

It is a bit hard to read pdf. formats in Kindle as well as personal documents because you still need to upload them to Amazon and use them from there for a fee. Aside from the fee, it can also be time consuming. But overall, the benefits outweighs the limitations and this makes the Kindle wireless reading device a worthwhile investment.

Amazon’s Kindle gives its users the one of the best reading experience, and what better way to accentuate that experience than adding in an important accessory to it, a Kindle light. There is no doubt that Kindle has well established its name on top of the eBook reader products thanks to its amazing features that distances itself from the rest of the pack. In particular, the third generation Kindle, commonly known as Kindle 3, is dubbed to be Amazon’s revolutionary wireless reading device that is altogether sleek, lighter in weight, has double the storage and have a long battery life. Plus, revamped features are now more appealing to more consumers which include built-in Wi-Fi, an option to buy with both 3G and Wi-Fi, enhanced PDF reader, and with the new E Ink Peal Technology, Kindle has now 50% more contrast on its E Ink screen for the clearest and sharpest texts and images yet. No wonder more and more book lovers are switching their love of traditional paperback books to this great eReader device. But what if readers want to be comfortable at night and read in the darkness of their rooms before sleeping or perhaps reading while riding in a car at night?

Click here to see the biggest selection of Kindle lights available.

Actually, with Kindle 3′s higher screen contrast, readers could still read well even under low lights. The one thing that a Kindle and most eReaders that use E Ink screen display cannot incorporate to the device is a back light that will illuminate the screen for reading convenience during night time. The reason for this is because of the E ink technology itself. Backlights come from behind or back of the screen or underneath it. E ink technology prevents this from happening because of how the technology works. Within it, there are tiny balls that have white color on one side and black on the other side. The computer will instruct the device which balls should be white and which should black, thus forming a word after. This way, readers can enjoy a paper like screen display and that is what Amazon aims at achieving. Kindle is designed to emulate what it is like reading from an actual book and backlights will only degrade the screen’s readability. The only way Kindle enthusiasts can enjoy their Kindles more at night time is by using a kindle light. There are various kindle reading light accessories available at Amazon that can provide the kind of illumination consumers are looking for.

Remember when you used to read paperback books at night in your bed and you do not want to disturb your partner sleeping soundly beside you with the lights on so you got yourself a book light to give you enough reading light without light slippage? Well, that is exactly the purpose of a Kindle light. Kindles may be perfect under the sun, but it is less than ideal in a dim light which is why kindle book light is brought out to the market. Kindle light accessories come with powerful LED light enough to cover the whole of the Kindle screen. Most models are battery powered, compact and have flexible arms to adjust light angles. It is styled as a clip-on that clamp onto the edge of the device and securely place the tool onto the device without wobbling loose. And for aesthetic purposes, various colours and designs are available to suit every consumer’s preferences best.

Click here to see the biggest selection of Kindle lights available.

One of the best kindle light ever made recently is the Kindle Lighted Leather Case. It looks like a normal leather case for an eReader, but with some surprises. For one thing, it has integrated a LED light within the cover itself. The light retracts into the cover. The light draws its power from the Kindle itself which means no more worries of suddenly getting low on light in the middle of the reading and battery change. When the kindle is on sleep mode, the Kindle light will automatically turn off as it uses kindle’s power. Just like most reading lights, the light is not evenly distributed to the entire screen of the Kindle with the top right side getting much light. Even so, it still gives off enough light to engage in an enjoyable read at night. It comes in a hefty price though at $59.99. Yet, many are still thrilled to get their hands on this two in one accessory, a cover with a light.

Kandle by Ozeri kindle light is another book light accessory compatible with Kindle 3 and other eBook readers. Battery-powered, it is designed to cast off even light on the Kindle’s display and it is compact. It is also cheaper at a list price of $39.99 but is currently selling at Amazon at $18.25. Huge savings at for a quality kindle light. The downside is that chubby frame is a little overwhelming on the slim features of the Kindle. Another book light compatible with Kindle that received a good review is the Verso clip-on reading light. Again, it runs with batteries and it attaches easily and comfortably on the Kindle or on the Kindle cover. It folds up easily and is very lightweight. It is also designed to cast uniform light on the Kindle screen so that the arm is bendable to the angle that you want to achieve. A glare on the screen can be easily eliminated just by adjusting the light; a good deal for a price of $19.99. The Mighty Bright XtraFlex2 Clip-on light for Kindle version is another good buy for a reading light. This kindle light clamp-on accessory is actually custom designed to fit Amazon’s Kindle. Just like Verso, it has an adjustable neck to manage the light and the positioning easily, but what makes it stand out that Verso is that its two super LED lights would equal 6 normal LEDs. With just a tap on the sensor switch, readers have the option to use one or two of the super LEDs adjusting brightness. However, the clamp is a little bit big for the Kindle, so the user must be careful of it not clipping on the screen. But altogether, for $14.99, it is worth a try for a useful and effective kindle light.

Where Can I Buy a Kindle?

Wondering where to buy Kindle? While you can buy the Kindle from a physical store like Best Buy, it is recommended that you buy the Kindle directly from the manufacturer – Amazon. Yes, the online store Amazon.com designs and makes the Kindle, which is a huge reason for its success. You see, with Amazon already being one of the largest retailers of books, and with one of the largest databases of credit cards from its customers, the Kindle and the Kindle ebook store is a natural fit.

Following the success of Apples App Store with its iPhone and iPad products, it is clear that this sort of “gated community” product and store has huge appeal to buyers. Apples products, however, are in a different category to the Kindle. The iPad is more of a “media consumption” device – browsing the web, watching movies, tv shows, listening to music. While you can read books on an iPad, it wasn’t made with this in mind. The differences become very clear when you learn more about the Kindle – but they can very easily be seen simply by looking at the price difference! The Kindle starts at just $79, whereas the iPad 2 starts at $499.

Why Buy a Kindle from Amazon?

These are just a few of the many reasons to buy it directly from Amazon:

It comes already registered

Customer support from Amazon is excellent

Save on sales tax

You will receive the Kindle in as little as a day (without going anywhere – especially good with fuel prices the way they are!)

You can return the Kindle for a full refund within 30 days – without the paperwork

Amazon has 30-day return policy, no questions asked. Whether you’re returning it because of defect, dissatisfaction or for repair, they’ll refund, repair or replace with no additional hassles. But Target, for example, has a 90 day return policy but requires receipt, packaging and the paperwork in tact plus the device practically unused to be returned.

Availing of warranties is faster for Kindles purchased directly at Amazon compared to those bought offline. If your Kindle encounters a problem, you will have to return it to the store you bought it from and the store will have to send it back to Amazon for repair or replacement, and they’ll send it back again to the store for you to pick up. Makes you think it is better to deal with the manufacturer directly, right?

So, now that you know where to buy a kindle, the question becomes which Kindle is the best for your needs.

Our Top Recommendation
Can play audio books and music with headphones. The downside to the Kindle Touch is that the touch functionality works with everything, not just a human finger. So if anything touches the screen it will recognise is and turn the page. Because it uses touch, it has no hardware buttons to turn page so it has a sleeker look. The software is slightly slower than the other Kindles to handle the touch capability. Touch keyboard is a lot easter to type with than the up/down input of the standard Kindle, or the keyboard on the Kindle Keyboard.

Which Kindle Should I Buy?

Our top recommendation is the Kindle Touch. This is the most popular among buyers, and they all seem to be pleased with their choice. The 3G options are unnecessary, as you will only need internet when you are downloading books – its easy just to do this over wi-fi. The Kindle Touch is only $20-$30 more, depending on if you get the special offers (ads) or not.

Heres what you get for that $20-$30 more:

Double the battery life of the standard Kindle – 2 months instead of 1 month

Double the storage capacity – 4GB (about 3,000 books) instead of 2GB (about 1,400 books)

Larger screen

Multi Touch controls

Can play audio books and music with headphones

Sleeker look with no hardware buttons

Kindle Customer Reviews

These are real customer reviews, from Amazon.com

I LOVE MY KINDLE ! – Carol Kohler
“I’m 70 years old, have loved to read ever since I learned that Spot could run. (a long time ago) Replace a book? Never! Then I caved, I bought a Kindle. Has to be one of the smartest things I’ve ever done. I love the thing, fell in love the first day it arrived. Easy to set up, easy to use, what more could an old granny want?”

I don’t know how I’ve managed to live without it, March 4, 2012 – Aage Sinkbæk
“I bought a Kindle hoping I would not regret it, but I have already grown so attached to it that I wonder that I have managed to live so many years without it. I would rather give up my TV than my Kindle. It is my constant companion on train travels.”

Just what I needed. – R. L. Frank
“This review is about the $79 Kindle that Amazon recently released. I’m not going to compare it to other Kindles since this is the first Kindle I’ve owned. Until now, I’ve read Kindle edition books, either on my computer or Android phone, but I’ve wanted a reader I could sit outside and read with, that had sufficient battery life to meet my needs.

This Kindle is it. It is a size that is easily held with a screen size that doesn’t have me changing pages every 5 seconds (as I had to do on my phone). I can use it outside on a sunny day and find it perfectly readable. It is also perfectly readable indoors under normal room lighting conditions. Navigation, menus, etc. are intuitive and easy to use. The virual keyboard used with the 5-way controller is a bit clunky to use, but not difficult. When I want to shop for new books, I use my computer, in any event, so it is no drawback for me, at all.

Page turns are fast, storage capacity is more than I actually need, and the battery life is more than I’ll ever need in a day. I plug it in at night, just like I do with my phone, and in the morning, I’m fully charged and ready to go.

If your interests are solely reading books, magazines, newspapers, etc., and have no need of text to speech, this is a very economical choice. If you travel a lot and are not near free hot spots, you might want to consider one of the models with 3G service.

BTW, for those who are turned off by the idea of special offers and ads, please note that these NEVER appear while you are reading. They only appear on the home screen (where they occupy the lowest portion of the screen and are fairly unobtrusive, and on the screen saver, which, since it is only there when you aren’t using your Kindle, who cares.”

Kindle Touch VS Kindle Basic – D. Guo “DG”
“I’ve been deliberating on the kindle series for some time and finally decided to go with the Touch.

My requirement:
1) A reading device. I have a Touchpad, an iPhone 4s, 4 laptops at home and I sat in front of a computer for more than 15 hours a day. Granted there are kindle apps on most devices nowadays, none of them really serves its sole purpose – reading as well as it is expected to be. It’s not just that LED based screens aren’t meant for long term reading, I got distracted from the book using those devices because of other functionalities they have.
2) Convenience. All the devices I have are OK for business (including MacBook Air), but holding any of them like a book in one hand for hours just isn’t practical.

Why Kindle:
1) It’s a 6″ black and white tablet that weighs a little over 7 oz. The e-ink is as close to a real book as an electronic device gets. I can still surf the internet and listen to mp3 on it, but they are not going to distract me from reading.
2) The form factor on both of the kindles makes it possible to carry them in my pockets.

Touch VS Basic
This was really a tough choice. And after play around with both for a while, I started growing into the Touch. I had concerns for both device initially:
1) Touch doesn’t have physical button and might cause accidental page flip.
2) Touch is bigger and heavier.
3) Touch screen might get dirty easy.
3) Basic only has a joy stick for navigation.

In the end, Touch wins.
1) There are rarely any accidental page flip because Touch is in fact a little thicker than the Basic. That additional thickness plus the width around the screen let my fingers rest on the frame very comfortably.
2) With a case on both devices, it’s hard to feel the weight and size difference.
3) The Touch screen is matte. It is much less sensitive to finger prints than my iPhone and Touchpad.
4) Browsing through and typing on Touch is much easier. Here is why you need to browse the internet on the Touch: Kindle store downloads and management. The kindle store on a computer let you manage your books online and send to different kindle devices/apps you own, but so far, I only find it possible to manage the books in personalized folders on the kindle by creating “new collections”. You can do the same on the Basic using the joy stick or choose to be messy with your files, but separating personal documents and different genres of books make the home screen extremely clean.
5) The screen on the Basic doesn’t dip inside the frame, so it looks like the letters are popping up from the screen. This is the part I spent the most time getting used to on the Touch, as the depth of the touch screen from the service looks deeper when I read.
6) The Text2Speech and X-ray are features that don’t hurt to keep, but I want to use the Kindle for reading only.

Verdict:
If you want to manage your books/documents on the kindle, go with the Touch. For me at least, this is more valuable than the Text2Speech and X-ray feature for the $20 difference.

As a side note, the pdf readability and screen rotations problem shouldn’t matter too much if you are buying the device for reading books. 6″ screen is way too small to read standard IEEE/ACM double column papers. Seriously, reading and fully digesting a paper should not be measured by portability. Print them out and read it on paper. On the other hand, the screen rotation problem can be fixed with a potential software update (if amazon decides to do it. Might want to change the way device driver processes the touch data). The problem is that you will need to get used to the new touch screen layout (selection zone difference to keep the relative left/right/top division).”

History of the Kindle

The demand for eBooks continues to grow. The resurgence of eBooks became prevalent thanks to the success of electronic book readers that were introduced to the market. This revolutionary device has magnified the affection of book lovers and hobbyists alike towards reading, sparked curiosity from individuals who previously showed less interest in reading and made eBook a preference to many instead of traditional print media.

Amazon.com developed its first ever eReader, the Kindle, in 2007 and since then, eBook reading experience has never been the same. It has grabbed majority of the market share in eReader devices that it is no surprise that a lot of people are looking forward to owning one.

Amazon’s Kindle is really one of the best breakthroughs in electronic book reader technology. It offers what a printed book cannot while maintaining the essence of reading from a book. It is compact, user-friendly, sleek and wireless. Weight is of no issue and the selection of books is vast. If you have decided on where to buy Kindle, go now and buy one. If you love to read, if your passion for books is overwhelmingly great, then Kindle will be your new best friend because it’s exceedingly comfortable and easy to read off the Kindle anywhere.

E Ink Explained

Kindle uses E ink display technology that closely imitates ink on paper. Screen display is like a real paper with texts and images that are clearer and sharper, even under the bright sunlight there is no glare.

E Ink fonts are sharp and clear like real paper

You can be assured that there is no strain to the eyes while reading. It is amazingly lighter than a paperback book at 8.5 ounces and at 1/3 of an inch thick, it is thinner than an actual magazine. Kindle’s storage capacity can handle up to 3,500 eBook which could be downloaded, transferred, borrowed or lent so you can read as many books to your heart’s content. To match up with the current trend of wireless innovation, Kindle is embedded with Wi-Fi and 3G features as well. Now, you can have access to any books you like and download them anytime, anywhere. And of course, it is very easy to use – no software installation necessary, no set-up needed, and no computer required.

Where to Buy a Kindle?

If you are thinking of where to buy Kindle, logically, Amazon.com is the place to go. After all Amazon is the creator of Kindle. Kindle sales from its first, second and now their latest third generation of kindles have been flying off the shelf of Amazon. In fact, it is their best selling product for years now and true enough, Amazon intends to keep it that way. The third generation Kindle comes in with Wi-Fi and 3G capabilities and two colors to choose from, the graphite and white. If you log on to Amazon.com, you’ll find that their Kindle Wi-Fi 6′ E Ink Pearl Display is selling at $79.00 while their Kindle 3G (Free 3G + Wi-Fi 6′) is selling at $189.00 only.

If you are wondering how Kindle Wi-Fi differ from Kindle 3G for such a price difference, then stop because what makes Kindle 3G a premier Kindle is its 3G plus Wi-Fi feature. No need to look for hotspot Wi-Fi zones because you can download eBooks anytime, anywhere in the world, thanks to 3G and GSM technology which is basically available globally. And what makes this even sweeter is that it has no monthly fees or annual contracts! Where screen size matters to users, Kindle DX is here to serve. It has a display screen of 9.7′ which is best for reading newspapers, magazines and PDFs. It is selling at $379.00 online.

Try Before You Buy

If you prefer to have a physical encounter with the Kindle before purchasing one, then problem solved because Amazon has brought Kindle offline for more sales and distributed it to brick and mortar stores such as Best Buy, Target and Staples. You cannot expect to get a better price and customer service than from Amazon though. Best Buy is selling Kindle Wi-Fi for $79.99, the Kindle 3G for $189.99 and Kindle DX for $379.99 – $0.99 more expensive than Amazon. Target and Staples offer the same price as Amazon, however there are differences in warranties, return policies and customer service.

A knack for book lovers and reading enthusiasts, the Amazon’s Kindle 3 review bring in praise and wows from first-hand users and experts and kindle enthusiasts. Kindle 3 is actually the third generation of the Kindle family ever since Amazon entered the electronic reader market in 2007. It has managed to bring improvised features from its predecessor, the Kindle 2, and added more functionality to the device for the enjoyment of its users. Yet, some critics from other Kindle 3 reviews point out that the changes in made for Kindle 3′s release are simply minor improvements to its previous model and do not redefine what it takes to be the best eBook reader. This may be true, however, for a price that is cheap and affordable to anyone on a tight budget, and a reading experience that is above and beyond more enjoyable than paperbacks and hard covers, Kindle 3 is anything but plain and mediocre.

Yes, Kindle 3 has improved and is better in more ways than one compared to its competition but it is not flawless. Can its limitations potentially stop aspiring eReader owners from getting a Kindle 3? It entirely depends on what consumers want from its eReader device. But remember, Kindle 3 is the bestselling item at Amazon.com. It is doing rather well even with known flaws and reading through a Kindle 3 review with unbiased observations and recommendations from consumers substantiates why this device appeals to many readers. So let us take a closer look at how this new generation Kindle stands out from the rest of the eBook readers in the market and where it falls short of capabilities.

Kindle 3 Pros and Cons

With many Kindle reviews found online, it is commonly noted that the most significant improvement Kindle 3 has over its predecessor is its high contrast screen, thanks to the latest E-Ink Pearl technology that increases contrast by 50%. This makes the reading experience more enjoyable, whether under the sun or indoors, because of its clearer and sharper display. Kindle 3 boasts as the lightest eBook reader among its competition weighing 8.7 ounces and 21% smaller than Kindle 2, while maintaining its 6″ E ink pearl display screen. It is in fact, lighter than paperback and at 1/3 of an inch thick, it is thinner than a magazine which makes it very light to hold in your hands. Plus, Kindle 3 is now enhanced with wireless technology having it integrated with Wi-Fi and always free 3G capabilities. It makes downloading eBooks easier, faster and more convenient. Another Kindle 3 review points to its long battery life. Well, the longest maybe among eBook readers available in the market which can last up to a month after a single charging with wireless modem turned off. The text to speech feature of Kindle 3 also stands out as it opens the device to a new set of consumers, particularly the visually impaired, and have the eBooks read out to them.

Kindle 3 supports various file formats such as AZW, TXT, PDF, Audible, MP3, unprotected MOBI and PRC and converted DOC, JPEG, GIF, PNG, and BMP files. Its PDF support is much improved where you can make notes and can search within PDF file. However, as per Kindle 3 review, the ultimate deal breaker for users who are format purists is its non-support of the widely accepted eBook format, EPUB. Most public libraries use EPUB format for lending books, and Kindle does not support this. Another drawback for this device is the limited memory. At 4GB capacity, some purports that it is not enough especially when Kindle 3 supports MP3. But to many eBook enthusiasts, this does not even matter since eReaders’ main purpose is to provide the best eBook reading experience, not listening to MP3 music.

Nook vs. Kindle Review

Two of the best eReaders in the market, Nook and Kindle are often compared based on build, performance, interface and price. A major plus of Nook over Kindle is its EPUB support including DRMed EPUB while Kindle supports everything else except EPUB. Another innovative feature of Nook is its color touch screen that helps users navigate via touch screen, while Kindle has push buttons. Nook has a memory card slot to expand Nook memory while Kindle 3 has a limited 4GB capacity. However, Kindle 3 outdoes Nook in weight, E Ink screen contrast and battery life, among other things. Kindle 3 is the lightest, easy to hold eReader out there. The screen display is sharper and clearer than Nook’s and Kindle can go without charging for a month, if Wi-Fi is well managed, while Nook’s LCD screen eats up its battery life way faster than Kindle. Kindle has wider range of books to choose from and has a better PDF support than Nook. Based on a Kindle 3 review, text to speech feature is a major plus for Kindle while Nook does not have one. While both Nook and Kindle 3 have Wi-Fi support, only Kindle 3 has unlimited 3G support which makes it more ideal for constant travelers who wants to download eBooks anytime, anywhere. And if you compare prices, Nook at $199 and Kindle 3 at $189, the affordability of Kindle makes it more appealing to most consumers.

Kindle 3 is not an all-in-one reading device. Though it constantly adds more features to meet user preferences, it is still aiming at bringing you the best reading experience. But as any Kindle 3 review would express, Kindle 3 is the best standalone eBook reader in the market today.
